A full-time, paid organizing role for an early-career professional with ties to the Annapolis area and a passion for electing Democrats

About the Organization:

The Speaker Mike Busch District 30 Democratic Club, one of the largest local Democratic clubs in the state of Maryland, brings together “Do-Something Democrats” to get out the vote for Democratic candidates in Maryland’s 30th Senate District, including the Annapolis area and Southern Anne Arundel County.

About the Fellowship:

The Busch Fellowship, named in honor of the late Speaker Mike Busch, is an opportunity for an early-career professional to work as a full-time field organizer, mobilizing volunteers to contact voters and win votes for Democrats up and down the ballot. Our goal is to win elections through relentless organizing and talking to voters directly about the issues that matter to them, and create an accessible pathway to careers in politics for young people in District 30 who cannot afford to take unpaid internships. Fellows will be paid a living-wage stipend, receive training and mentorship from seasoned political campaign staff, and have a direct impact on electing candidates who will fight for Democratic values and policies.

Fellowship Details:

The Busch Fellowship runs from September 8th through November 3rd 2026. The fellow will be paid a stipend of $10,000 in weekly installments.

Responsibilities:

1. Recruit, train, and retain volunteers

• Build a volunteer prospect list from D30 members, prior volunteers, candidate lists, community contacts, and coordinated-campaign leads.
• Make direct volunteer recruitment calls and follow-up contacts.
• Recruit volunteers for canvassing, phone banking, visibility, postcarding, textbanking, and Election Day work.
• Identify and develop volunteer captains for canvass staging, phone banks, data entry, hospitality, rides, and visibility.

2. Organize voter-contact events

• Help plan and staff D30 canvasses, phone banks, postcard parties, visibility events, and GOTV actions.4. o Coordinate venues, supplies, scripts, sign-in, training, turnout confirmation, and post-event data follow-up.
• Ensure volunteers have a smooth, welcoming, organized experience.

3. Support Democratic campaigns

• Support Democratic nominees in D30 and Anne Arundel County, including state legislative, countywide, County Council, congressional, gubernatorial, Board of Education, and other targeted races as assigned.
• Serve as limited “fractional field support” for local campaigns that need help with voter contact, volunteer events, sign distribution, literature drops, and event staffing.
• Avoid duplicating or conflicting with the coordinated campaign; route field priorities through Wes Huey.
• Coordinate with the county coordinated campaign
• Participate in agreed coordination calls or check-ins.
• Use the campaign’s approved voter-contact systems, scripts, target universes, and reporting expectations where applicable.
• Report D30 volunteer capacity and local field needs to the coordinated campaign.

Qualifications:

• Ties to Maryland’s 30th Senate District strongly preferred. Maryland ties welcome.

• Demonstrated commitment to electing Democrats.

• Some campaign, civic, advocacy, student government, labor, nonprofit, or

community organizing experience preferred.

• Comfort making cold calls and direct asks.

• Strong verbal communication and volunteer-facing energy.

• Good writing skills for volunteer emails, texts, and event follow-up.

• Reliability, maturity, discretion, and ability to represent D30 professionally.

• Willingness to work nights and weekends during the final campaign push.

• Access to reliable transportation, phone, and laptop.

• Ability to learn voter-contact, volunteer-management, and data systems quickly.

• A resourceful “figure-it-out” approach under pressure.

• Experience volunteering for political campaigns strongly preferred.
