Bio

Saqib has lived in Montgomery County since 1991, when he moved here to attend college. He benefited from Maryland’s superior system of higher education, receiving Bachelors & Masters Degrees in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, College Park.

After receiving his Masters Degree, Saqib went on to develop a successful career as a software engineer. Saqib now works for a company that contracts with the federal government, providing him with firsthand insight into the intersection of the public and private sectors in the new high-tech economy. Saqib married his wife Susan in 1999. As newly-weds the couple lived in Montgomery Village. Now they live in beautiful and quiet West Gaithersburg. Saqib is blessed with two young daughters, Sofia & Sascha. His parents, also long-time Montgomery County residents, live just around the corner.

Saqib has been deeply involved in Montgomery County politics and civic life for years. He organized at the grassroots level on behalf of Howard Dean’s presidential bid as the campaign’s District 39 Coordinator in 2003 and early 2004. After working for Congressman Van Hollen, Saqib was motivated to act on behalf of his neighbors regarding an issue that was galvanizing his community. Co-chairing the Longdraft Coalition in 2005, he led a group of concerned citizens in successfully lobbying the City of Gaithersburg to abandon a plan to expand Longdraft Road to four lanes.

In 2006 Saqib ran a successful grassroots campaign to win a seat in the Maryland House of Delegates representing District 39. He knocked on thousands of doors and met countless District 39 residents. The stories he heard on the campaign trail inspired him to champion initiatives in Annapolis that made a real difference in the lives of Marylanders.

In Saqib’s spare time he enjoys playing basketball, writing simple software applications and hanging out with his family.
